If you want to hit some secret beach spots in Southern Cal, El Matador Beach in Malibu is the place to kick it.
The past two summers, I’ve been able to roam a lot of Cali’s beaches up and down the coast. They each have their own little vibes, and the towns surrounding them play into this. Depending on where you grew up going to beaches will totally affect which ones you like best. I grew up always going to Florida, so Manhattan Beach, CA feels super homie to me. It’s also been the most convenient it get to, so it’s where I normally chill out.
BUT, Manhattan Beach is very basic. It looks cute, there’s a lot of families around and yummy places to eat. It’s safe to say the least. A lot of people don’t like this beach because it’s not quite as exotic as other places. (Still my favorite one, though.)
If you’re feeling extra adventurous, head out to Malibu to El Matador Beach. This is a lesser well known beach, and also very exclusive. To even get to the sand is a trek down some rickety looking stairs. But everyone around you will also be making the trek, so I guess it’s safe, lol.
This beach is known for its massive rocks and waves. It’s a great place for a photo op, so bring your cameras, girlfriends.
For my outfit, I’ve had this see-through-shimmery-mesh dress from Urban Outfitters for a bit, and while I love it, I have to be feeling really style crafty to wear it. It challenges me. I like a good outfit challenge.

Lastly, Meghan Thompson KILLED it with these pics. I’m obsessed. She traveled all the way from Arkansas for a lil Cali vaca and shoot time. I’m making her come visit me in New York so we can get cool shots out there. Even though I know she already wants to, she doesn’t have a choice ; ). If you’re in Northwest Arkansas and need a photographer, feel free to reach out to me for her contact or click the pink words above for her Instagram.
