As promised, here’s Part Two to my last post.
Scouting out photographers in big cities is easier than finding them in rural towns in the South. Who would have guessed? Here in NYC, most photographers know each other. It’s like one big social group via Instagram.
The first girl I ended up shooting with was Casey, who took the pics below. I actually don’t remember exactly how I stumbled upon her, but it was on Instagram, and I definitely liked endless rows of her photos before DM-ing her to please take pictures of me. (Side note: I forgot to tell her I’m a blogger, and halfway through the shoot she was like, “So what are you thinking of using these photos for?”) #badbloggeraward.
ANYWHO… From Casey’s page, I found a lot of photographers that had a similar-ish style as her. You know that little arrow that points down, next to the follow button? The one that becomes a drop down box. Ya, I used the heck out of that button to find other accounts of New York photographers.
Really, I was following these people because I liked their work and wanted to keep fresh New York pics on my feed. A few of them ended up reaching out to me to do shoots, and viola.
That’s how to find the NYC photographer clan. All done seamlessly on Insta.
For starting reference — You can type in the search bar on Instagram “NYC Photographers” or “whatever city you’re in photographer” and it should pull up some accounts that’ll be relevant for you.
Hope this helps! xx
