Ask me if I have chapped lips ALL of the time. Just ask.
The answer is YES always. And I have no idea why. I’m not going to write you up a detailed description, but just trust me, it’s painful and ugly.
I’ve tried drinking tons and tons of water and also taking B2 supplements, but I’ve had zero luck. My best guess, and my dermatologist’s best guess, is that I have ultra sensitive lips. This means I can’t use ChapStick, Burt’s Bee’s, Vaseline, etc. Even Aquaphor and Vaniply (which are often recommended for sensitive lips) are too much for me.
There’s a hot list of chemicals in over the counter lip balms that are actually TERRIBLE for your skin.
Petroleum (aka Mineral Oil or Petrolatum), Butylated Hydroxyanisole, Parabens, Chemical Sunscreen, Camphor, Alcohol, Menthol, the list goes on.
I’m at home in Houston right now with my fam. So, my mom and I went to Wal-Mart and looked at every single lip balm. Practically every brand has at least one of these ingredients, which means I can’t use any of them. After the brands my dermatologist told me to try didn’t work, I decided to take matters into my own hands. I wanted a lip balm with all natural ingredients. Ingredients that I actually recognize, like coconut oil.
So, I created, with a little help from Google, my own natural lip balm that I use as often as I want without my lips freaking out. It takes LITERALLY ten minutes to make. It’s so easy.
☆ Buy your ingredients
Coconut Oil, Shea Butter or Cocoa Butter, and Beeswax
☆ In a double boiler, or a glass bowl over a pan, boil an inch of water on low
☆ Melt your ingredients
☆ Once melted, use a dropper to put the liquid in containers
☆ Let sit for a few hours until hard
That’s it! I chose to use both Shea and Cocoa Butter, but you don’t have to. You can also use Olive Oil along with the other ingredients, or just with the beeswax. Get creative with it. If you know you like some ingredients better than others, it’ll still work.
Lastly, I did add Coconut Oil and Mango fragrances into mine, which can be irritating, so if you’re allergic, stay away from this. I haven’t had a problem so far with them, though.
Let me know if you try it out!!
